Weed sales in New Jersey will begin in 13 locations

According to the state cannabis regulatory commission, recreational marijuana sales will begin in 13 medicinal dispensaries in New Jersey.

The locations include Maplewood, Paterson, Bloomfield, Rochelle Park, and Elizabeth, all of which are suburbs of New York City, as well as others in the Philadelphia area. Retail sales have yet to begin in New York. The state of Pennsylvania has not legalized recreational marijuana, and the drug is illegal in the United States for all uses.

“We expect 13 locations for the entire state will make for extremely busy stores”, Jeff Brown, executive director of the Cannabis Regulatory Commission, said in a statement.

He claims that the dispensaries have assured the panel that they can satisfy demand without disrupting access to the 128,000 New Jersey residents who have a physician-certified medical marijuana need.

TerrAscend Corp., Curaleaf Holdings Inc., Green Thumb Industries Inc., Acreage Holdings Inc., Columbia Care Inc., Verano Holdings, and Ascend Wellness Holdings had their retail applications accepted by the cannabis commission on April 11th. Initially licensed as prescription-only enterprises, those shops can now sell to anybody 21 and older for any purpose.

In a single transaction, customers can buy up to 1 ounce (28 grams) of dried flower, 5 grams of concentrates, resins, or oils, or 10 100-milligram packages of ingestibles.

The cannabis commission advised customers not to purchase more than 1 ounce of marijuana, which is the legal limit in the state.

Don’t cross state lines, the commission said. It is illegal to transport legal cannabis products from New Jersey outside New Jersey.

Medical marijuana providers are allowed to begin first in New Jersey, which is following a step-by-step approach to retail marijuana licensing. Hundreds of applications for shops are pending across the state.
